Thrash Comic Ad

This is an advertisement I did in Illustrator for my Presentation class. I decided to create an advertisement for my comic I've been toying with. I wanted a real sin city vibe to it, since the comic, in my mind at least, would be a sort of drug filled noir adventure. I really liked this ad, unfortunately my teacher did not understand it at all. 

Thrash and the Beaver

I've been toying around with the idea of making a comic book lately. The idea came from a friend of mine who told me about shooting up beaver tranquilizer one time. I found the entire scenario so magnificently absurd that I wanted to make a comic book about him and his exploits with a magical talking beaver that only he could see. Here are the preliminary portraits of the two main characters, the beaver and Thrash. I did these in Illustrator.

A Ninja and His Steed

This was also done in Illustrator a year or so ago. There is absolutely no point to this picture other than the absurdity of a ninja riding a panda. It makes me smile and I hope it does the same for you.

Ratboy Greets the Radio Controlled Beast

This was done in Illustrator at around the same time that Limbo Cowboy was done. Again I used the same color for the background as the beasts skin, but I left Ratboy, the monster's Radio Control hat, and underwear white to give the picture a sort of contrast and make those parts stand out. The line that Ratboy is holding originally went to a balloon in the shape of Frankensteins head but it didn't look quite right so I cropped it out.

Limbo Cowboy

This was done in Illustrator a long time ago. I may eventually turn this into a painting of some sort, but i really like the visual of making his skin the same color as the background. I used that idea quite frequently a year or so ago when this was made.

Spock in Repose while Reflecting

This was done in Illustrator. It's a preliminary illustration of a painting I'm planning on doing. I really liked the quote I used for Spock and I wanted to depict him relaxing on an alien world, almost like he's a philosopher. The final painting will be on plywood and will be 2 feet high and 6 feet high with vinyl lettering for his quote. I also might change his speech bubble up a little.

Earlie Vs. The Sub

This is my version of Earlie from the Adult Swim cartoon Squidbillies. I really liked the idea of a somewhat more realistic squid with a trucker hat and a bottle of whiskey. I put the submarine there to give a size comparison and I added the comic book speech bubbles that say "what the?" and "...You can't be serious." to give a humorous depiction of what it would be like to be on a submarine and come into contact with a squid of that size and temperment. I really enjoy this painting. Acrylic on canvas with a tad of mixed media.

The Life of Ted

This is actually the first thing that I painted. It shows the entire life of Ted from birth until death. I'm not sure how he lost his eye at the end, but he apparently did. I really like this piece. It's nine individual canvases situated around each other in an effort to tell the story of Ted. I think it worked out quite nicely.

Black Face Syrup Lady

This painting was done for a "Taboo Art Party" in Hattiesburg. Basically I wanted to do a really racist painting but at the same time make it a little funny and charming for everyone. Unfortunately this painting did not go over well at all and was ripped off the wall and burned by several angry African American women. So does that mean I failed at the taboo party or I succeeded? I'm not really sure about that one. Anyway, the painting WAS acrylic on canvas but now it's a pile of ashes in someone's backyard.

Never Nude

This is the second painting I did inspired by Arrested Development. Never Nude depicts a very disheartened Tobias saying "There are dozens of us." We don't know if he's trying to convince us of this fact or himself. He's shown here in his trademark cutoffs (since he has a crippling phobia of ever being nude, even when he's alone). This painting makes me laugh, just like Tobias did on Arrested Development, and that's why I made it. Acrylic on canvas.

The Final Countdown

This is the first of two paintings inspired by the amazing show Arrested Development. This painting shows Gob in the middle of one of his magic tricks involving cards and a dead dove. He's saying to the viewer "It's no trick. It's an ILLUSION!" which he utters so often during the course of the series. I really like this painting if for no other reason than it reminds me of Gob and makes me laugh every time I see it. Acrylic on canvas.

Tentacle Man has a Drink

This painting really has no point to it. It is what it is. And that is a guy with tentacles for hands enjoying a nice refreshing beer. That's it. Acrylic on canvas

Chewie

This is probably my favorite painting so far. It's very simple but at the same time its immediately recognizable. Obviously it's a painting of Chewbacca from Star Wars, but to me it's more than that. It's a hilarious painting of Chewbacca from Star Wars. It's acrylic on canvas and hangs proudly in my living room. This is one of the few works that I will not sell under any circumstances.

March of the Fourth Reich

March of the Fourth Reich is an interesting painting. People either love it or hate it. I don't get very many in between reactions to it. It's acrylic on canvas and depicts a resurrected Hitler with his army of nazi zombies. 

Hello Duckie

This painting is hanging in my bathroom. It's painted on a 4 foot high x 2 foot wide piece of plywood with actual rubber duckies mounted to the bottom of it. 

Rain Man

This painting was done for my final presentation class project. It's 6 feet high and 2 feet wide and painted on plywood. It hangs in the Fine Arts Building at USM along with two other panels done by classmates of mine.
